Young Musician Competition
Alcester Singers Young Musician Competition was started by Malcolm Brinson over 30 years ago during his time as our musical director.
It is open to all young musicians living or attending a school within a 10-mile radius of Alcester and who are between the age of 11 and 18. Competitors must have achieved Grade 5 or above and previous winners cannot enter.
The current prize is £200 and the winner will also receive the Malcolm Brinson Trophy which they can keep for one year. The winner will also be offered the opportunity to perform at one of our concerts during the year.
Many of our previous winners have gone on to pursue prestigious musical careers. Our 2013 winner, Florence Cain, won BBC Radio 2 young chorister of the year 2016
The competition is sponsored by The Howarth Memorial Trust.

2019 Competition Report
The 2019 competition took place on Friday 22nd November and an packed audience watched six young people compete for the prize. The standard was high and the judging panel awarded both an overall winner and runner up prize on this occasion.
The judges had a difficult decision to take on who to award the £200 prize and trophy. After some deliberation they decided on Jack Middleton who played Sonata in D minor by Soler and Across the Stars by John Williams from the Star Wars film on piano. The judges also used their discretion to award a runner-up prize of £50 to Orla Reid who played the Theme from Schindler'sList by John Williams on violin.
